The Vision has been reached!

This past month was filled to the brim with obstacles and delays... But despite those hiccups, I'm proud to announce that "The Prisoner" has finally reached its intended state. The vision that was conceived, during the Brackeys Game Jam 2022,  has now been fully realised.

The first release that had been made available due to the game jam was riddled with quite a fair amount of game-breaking bugs, which made me quite sad, since the reception of the game had been pretty good despite those glaring flaws. Even worse, I came to realise that some of the content that had been included on the jam release was completely inaccessible due to some pesky little bugs.

I was disheartened that players hadn't been able to access much of the content I spent days writing and preparing...

But fear not, those mistakes have been corrected on this full release:

  • The bugs that made it impossible to reach the endings have been squashed.
  • The bugs that made it impossible to play the betrayal route have been burnt.
  • The bugs that prevented the prisoner from showing his true nature have been re-educated and re-introduced into society.
  • The monster is now actually visible!

Along with those bug fixes, several additions have been made:

  • The sound design has been revisited. Now with enough time to fully explore ideas, and test overall feeling, I believe a better, richer, atmosphere has been achieved which hopefully will be you the spooks.
  • Environmental assets have been added to the prison, in order to convey the sense that the space has a deeper history to uncover.
  • Overall presentation has been improved, and rough edges have been streamlined as much as possible.
  • Some quality-of-life features have also been added, such as a skip button, and a hide/show textbox button. Features which are normally present on typical VNs, but were lacking and urgently needed on "The Prisoner".

Lastly...

While this update could be considered final, for all intends and purposes, I could consider adding some extra lore and content in the future if this game happened to gain some traction.

But just in case it doesn't,  I hope you all enjoy the game as is.

It was a joy to challenge myself with a genre outside of my typical personal preferences, and hopefully you all enjoyed playing it as much as I did creating it.

I'll see you all on my next project. And remember...

The Prisoner misses you, dearly!
